Wedding dress dilemma: I’m getting married abroad – how do I find the best destination wedding dress?
A wedding abroad is an exciting proposition – exotic surroundings, an extended holiday with your guests, guaranteed sunshine – but what makes the best destination wedding dress? Sabina shares her wisdom to ensure you look your best wherever you’re saying ‘I do.’
Regardless of where you’re getting married, it’s important to choose a dress that works best for the climate and the wedding venue.
“A beach wedding in a hot climate definitely needs a less fitted silhouette,” advises Sabina. “Anything too constrained and you’ll feel hot and bothered. Also, a simple slip dress or similar fits more into the beachy vibe”
How to pack your destination wedding dress
There’s also the packing to consider. A formal, full-length princess gown is going to bring up a whole host of transportation problems for you. Our slinky dresses are much easier to pack up and take on your destination wedding than something that’s super structured.
“I always recommend The Empty Box Company to ensure your dress travels in style!,” says Sabina. “They have a selection of travel wedding boxes – all sized for different airlines – made from recycled materials and available in a variety of pretty prints. It’s also a great way to store your dress after the big day.”
It’s important to look after your wedding dress before the big day, so as soon as you get to your hotel, hang your dress up. If it’s creased and you haven’t packed a steam, the best way to get creases out is to put it in a steamy bathroom!
The best destination wedding dresses
Obviously, we’re slightly biased, but Sabina Motasem dresses are made for destination weddings. The Couture Collection is made from 100% silk, which is breathable and lightweight. Silk can help regulate your body temperature and even has moisture-wicking properties, making it perfect for keeping you dry and comfortable for that tropical beach wedding.
(Elsie from £1,950.00 | Elsa from £1,950.00)
While our Green Collection uses plant-based materials such as circular viscose and Cupro. The latter is still breathable, but also hypoallergenic, which is great if you suffer from sensitive skin.
(Peony from £1,250.00 | Rosea from £1,175.00)
All of our wedding dress styles are slinky and skim the body, all of which are perfect for a wedding in a warmer climate. Details such as low backs, spaghetti straps or floaty sleeves help add to the laidback feel a beach wedding demands.
Many of our real brides agree – and our dresses have been worn across the globe from Australia to Greece.
