This is the first of a series of interviews we are doing with each of our talented makers, who create our beautiful dresses. On this first interview we meet Jana, Production Supervisor who oversees the making of each of our dresses.
We are celebrating each of the amazing seamstresses, as well as the incredible network of women helping to make new-born baby clothes from waste fabrics for refugee and women’s charities. On a mission to build a large circular economy, where nothing goes to landfill through zero waste and support marginalised women and communities, whilst also helping the planet.

1. “Would you like to tell me your name and a little about yourself?”
My name is Jana, and I am the Production Supervisor. Fashion just came about, and together with my sister we wanted to work in fashion.
2. “How did you come about working at ED studio?”
I have been working at ED for a year now, but have worked in other fashion places.
“What does a typical day at the factory look like for you?“
For me its not about the sewing, its about sorting out the client's needs, checking the fabric to make sure that everything is matching the colour when you cut an item. You have to check everything is okay, it is what is important, to help the machinists do their job efficiently.
"What do you enjoy most about working here?”
Its been amazing I love sorting out the patterns and making sure they are right. if there needs to be any amendments to any of the patterns, I can do that and I love that. I like everything to be in order and organised.
“How does working here compare to other jobs you have had in the past?”
Its kinda the same depends how you make your place. I am helping machinists do their job better. I like making a difference, a small change can make such a difference.
“How did you learn the skills you use here?”
I studied in college and university during Soviet Union time which was more serious than it is now.
“What would you like people who wear these clothes to know about the work that goes into making them?”
When we made the dress the dress we always think who is going to wear and we really want them to feel good in the dress. To feel the love that we put into every dress we make. We are always imagining how the brides would like nice.
“What would you like people reading this to know about you and your story?”
That we care for the people who wear the dresses and its like not just once for maybe for generation to generations if the fabric will allow for it.
[Jana did not want to have her photo taken so we've added one of their studio instead]
