Pantone colour of the year 2023: Viva Magenta Wedding Day Inspiration
Every year Pantone chooses a colour that they believe encapsulates what the world is feeling. This year, they’ve gone bold with Viva Magenta, a reddy-pink colour that’s definitely for those that want to make an impact.
In contrast to last year’s softer colour Peri Winkle, Viva Magenta is a strong shade, inspired by by the red of cochineal, a natural dye.
“Invoking the forces of nature, Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute.
A joyous colour like this is something that we perhaps all need during these harsh ecomonic times, but can a bold shade like this be incorporated into your wedding day?
Sabina’s advice? If you’re scared of colour, go small with little touches of Viva Magenta.
“While this is a bold shade, it will look great paired against white and ivory, adding a shot of colour,” says Sabina. “Try a pair of shoes in this shade or choose magenta flowers for your bouquet. It would also look great as a bold statement for bridesmaids.”
How to incorporate Pantone Colour of the Year 2023 into your wedding day
This shade toes the line between a real magenta and a deep red. Think pink meets red meets berry! It works well with subtle shades such as blush pink and grey lilac but looks super crisp worn with white and ivory. Here are 21 ways to incorporate it into your big day:
Shoes
Bright magenta shoes are a great way to add a pop of colour into your big day look. The great thing about these unique wedding day shoes is you’re more likely to wear them again after your big day. Viva magenta shoes look great teamed with your favourite denim jeans or a little black dress.

Flowers
This bright shade will look good in any wedding day bouquet, regardless of the season. Mix varying shades of magenta together or team with green foliage and neutral flowers for a more subtle look. This is a shade that works really well in a dried bouquet, such as the arrangement (top) by Hidden Botanics. A magenta buttonhole will also work well with a dark suit.
Bridesmaid dresses
While more subtle shades of olive and rust have been popular for bridesmaids in recent years, magenta will definitely be making a comeback this year – and it’s a shade that looks particularly lovely for summer weddings. To have the most impact, ensure the dresses are simple in design and let the Pantone Colour of the Year do all the talking.

Veils and headpieces
Coloured veils are definitely becoming more popular with brides who want to inject their own unique touch to their big day look. A magenta veil may be a bold statement too far for some brides, but a pretty magenta floral headband or structured headpiece will help tie into the Viva Magenta trend without being too OTT.

Cake
Step away from the pale pink and go bright with a Viva Magenta wedding cake. Either choose one that’s covered top-to-toe in bright pink icing or accessorise a simple white cake with magenta flowers. We love this modern take on the theme, proving that magenta can look powerful as well as feminine.
Table decorations
As well as the obvious floral table decorations, there are plenty of ways to incorporate the Pantone Colour of the Year 2023 into your big day decorations. Candles, napkins, place mats or name tags will all add a touch of this vivid colour into your reception.
Stationery
Splashes of magenta on your wedding day stationery will definitely make it memorable. The great thing about this shade is you can go subtle – with magenta flowers on a white background – or dramatic such as dark blues mixed with magenta.

Makeup
A bold lip or a flash of fuchsia on nails will really make a statement on your big day. The beauty of Viva Magenta is that it suits all skin tones – and the bold, matte texture of the Hermes shade will ensure it stays put all day. If you’re normally a nude lip person, try a sheer magenta shade for a softer, more romantic effect.
