Famous couples who had small and intimate weddings {Part 2}
Here is part 2 of famous iconic couples who chose to have a small and intimate wedding, cherishing the day with their loved ones. I’m Aneela, who's part of the Sabina Motasem team and I've found lots of bridal inspiration with several famous couples who decided to keep it low-key with a small wedding.
Couples are having to think outside the box to make their day magical. Although it may be low key and intimate it can still be an exquisite day filled with love. Read on to find out which famous couples had a small-scale wedding…
Zoe Kravitz and Karl Glusman
Zoe Kravitz married in secret to Karl Glusman in Summer 2019 at her father’s, Lenny Kravitz’s 18th century three storey townhouse in Paris and released images 6 months after the event, successfully keeping the event private and away from the press. The ceremony was attended by the likes of Alicia keys, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. According to People the couple had already tied the knot in a secret civil ceremony a month before. Kravitz’s ballerina inspired gown is designed by Alexander Wang, the white gown has a boat neck fitted bodice with a dropped waist and ankle length full-bodied skirt. The look was completed with white kitten heel pumps and a sweet bow detail headband. The bride had a secret second dress for the evening reception, which has become a growing trend for brides to wear something less tradtional for the evening, a strapless corset top with a long slinky skirt. We have quite a few of these styles availble in our sample sale and we've had brides who have looked amazing.

Why we love this wedding
This wedding gives all the romantic vibes and sounds like the perfect fairy tale wedding with it being in Paris – the city of love. Zoe Kravitz is the ultimate cool bride and looks angelic in her ballerina inspired gown and ever so stylish in her co-ord attire for the evening. It was truly a star-studded event and as Alexander wang quoted "Fairy tales do come true".
Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl
Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in 2014. They exchanged their vows in a secluded park hidden away in Bedford, New York. It was a very private wedding and they were joined by a small number of close friends and family members. Olivia’s custom-made wedding outfit was designed as a 3 piece by her favourite wedding designer, Caroline Hererra and consisted of a cashmere sweater trimmed with feathers and white shorts with a tulle overlay skirt featuring embroidered florals along the edge. Olivia added a pop of colour to her outfit by accessorising with deep blue Manolo Blahnik shoes.
"We really wanted to keep this beautiful day very private and special to us and enjoyed the whole day with our family and two friends. Bedford is such an amazing and romantic countryside," Olivia wrote on her website. “Overall, I’ve always admired the beautiful traditions that go into a wedding day but because I work in fashion, this look suited my small, intimate ceremony and was a way to adapt certain bridal aspects for modern times.”

Why do we love this wedding?
Olivia looks so super chic and stylish and I love how she went for a versatile and non-traditional wedding look with a cashmere sweater and a short style. The tulle adds the bridal effect and the floral detail finishes it off beautifully. I personally love florals, something which we have included in the Green collection with our floral jacquard patterned fabric. We've also got some pretty tulle skirts that go over dresses to help create the same look.
I love how Olivia added a pop of colour by going for a bright coloured shoe, taking into consideration that ‘something blue’. Some of our previous brides have made the bold choice of going for a bright colour accessory/footwear creating a unique fashion statement.
Kelly Rowland and Tim Witherspoon
Kelly Rowland and Tim Witherspoon married in 2014 in an intimate destination wedding in Costa Rica. They were joined by around 30 guests of their closest friends and family members as well as her former bandmates, Beyonce and Michelle Williams. The bride wore an ivory wedding gown with a draped open back and long veil, that looked a lot like our much loved Marceline dress.
The former Destiny’s Child singer shared the first official photo of her wedding on her Instagram of a black-and-white candid photo of the newlyweds happily walking down a stone walkway from their May wedding in Costa Rica.
She wrote on instagram: “‘2014’ … What an amazing year, while I said I DO, the following months brought along a HELLO to a new little life! … Unfortunately, a GOODBYE as well, but HELLO again to a Guardian angel. 2+0+1+4=7, 7 my lucky number!”
Why do we love this wedding?
I love the idea of a destination wedding, somewhere idyllic and beautiful. The day was intimate and private in front of people who matter to them – which is all that truly matters. Kelly went for a timeless ivory gown accessorised with minimal jewellery and a tulle veil, giving her an ethereal look. We absolutely love the slinky cowl back dress.
Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego
Zoe Saldana married Marco Perego in a secret wedding ceremony in London, 2013. The couple have known each for a long time and it only took them a few weeks to plan the intimate ceremony and was attended by just a few close friends and family.
Zoe said of her wedding for the issue of Net-A-Porter's The Edit.“I’m not a private person, but I am discreet, so [getting married in secret] felt right."

Why do we love this wedding?
I love how they spent very little time to plan the big day and decided to go for it within a few weeks. Even though it was a small do they still made the day full of love and devotion.
Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem
Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem secretly married at a friend's house in Bahamas in 2010 with just their family present. Penelope wore a custom wedding gown by Galliano. The couple have always kept their romance and marriage below the radar.
“You know it’s the beginning of something, but you don’t know what it’s the beginning of,” Bardem said to Marie Claire in 2019, when they first started dating.
Penelope said "I think magic is very related to happiness. So it is not there all the time, but there are beautiful moments of magic in everyone's life.”
Why do we love this wedding?
Love how the couple decided to get married in total secret with just their nearest and dearest gets the thumbs up from us. Just beause you are getting married with a small numbe erof people, very intimately, doesnt mean that should scrimp and save on the details. You'll have more money to splash out and why not go for a luxury designer dress.
Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost
Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost tied the knot at the end of this October 2020 in New York with their closest friends and family, after just spending a few weeks planning the special day. The couple wanted it to be very low key and had an intimate ceremony in the actresses’ home. It was announced they got married via an Instagram post by Meals on Wheels, a charity organisation the couple both supports.
“We’re thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and loved ones. Their wedding wish is to help make a difference for vulnerable older adults during this difficult time by supporting @meaksonwheelsamerica”
Colin said recently on Andy Cohen Live - 'We don't know what's even legally allowed, right? This is not the time to get all your elderly, at-risk relatives together in one big group, I don't know when that moment will be.'

Why do we love this wedding?
I adore how they had an intimate do at home – I personally love the idea of being in the comfort of your own home and not having the pressure of arranging to get to a venue. Especially with the new Covid era it takes the stress away and the added expense of booking a venue. I find it really sweet and inspiring how they support such a charitable organisation and their wedding wish to donate to an amazing cause.
