Smartworks: transforming silky off-cuts into tops

We are a passionate team here at Sabina Motasem HQ. We're excited to share with you our ongoing journey towards sustainability and empowerment. Last year, we initiated a remarkable project that has allowed us to transform leftover off-cut waste silks from our dress creations into beautiful tops. We're proud to say that we're still donating these tops to Smart Works. It's been an incredible experience for us, knowing that we're making a positive impact by repurposing materials and supporting women in need.

Here's a pic of some tops we donated today.

Regular donations to Smart Works: empowering women

We believe in the power of collaboration, and that's why we've partnered with Smart Works, a remarkable charity that helps unemployed women gain the confidence they need to excel in interviews and transform their lives. By teaming up with them, we're able to make a tangible difference in the lives of women in need. To learn more about Smart Works and their incredible work, you can visit their website They provide comprehensive support, including high-quality outfits for job interviews, one-to-one interview training, and access to their supportive network for ongoing personal and professional development.

Sustainable style: Laelia and Dahlia tops

At Sabina Motasem, we believe sustainability and style go hand in hand. Our Laelia and Dahlia tops are designed with love and attention to detail, crafted in the same ateliers as our dresses. The Dahlia top features a stylish slash neck, a keyhole back neck, and three-quarter length sleeves. Meanwhile, the Laelia top showcases elegant pleats and grown-on slash sleeves. These versatile tops are not only sustainable but also timeless pieces that can be effortlessly styled with various outfits.

Reducing waste, empowering women: Your impact

By choosing a Sabina Motasem dress, you're not just selecting a stunning gown for your special day—you're actively participating in reducing waste within the bridal industry. We ensure that all leftover and off-cut fabrics from our Couture Collection and Green Collection are transformed into these exquisite tops, benefitting both the environment and women in need. Together, we can create a positive impact on the industry we cherish.

A holistic approach to sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our collaboration with Smart Works. We have been actively involved in other initiatives as well. During the initial lockdown in 2020, we supported the NHS by producing 1,400 scrubs to aid healthcare professionals. We also launched The Green Collection, where sustainability takes center stage. These endeavors, along with our ongoing commitment to repurposing materials, reflect our approach to making a positive impact on the environment and the lives of women in need. And most recently we are now turning the scraps into beautiful baby clothes we're donating to the refugee women who AFRIL support.
