Transforming scraps into baby items: Sabina Motasem X AFRIL Charity

AFRIL charity

We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership between Sabina Motasem, the innovative bridalwear brand known for its chic, timeless gowns, and Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL), in South East London. We're turning our beautiful scraps into baby clothes and donating them to the vulnerable refugee women and their children who are very much in need of our support.

We have always believed that high-end, quality design shouldn't compromise our commitment to the environment and communities. Together with AFRIL, we are taking our sustainable efforts to new heights and making a positive impact .

Sustainability Meets Style: Redefining Fashion's Impact

Where Luxury Meets Responsibility

At Sabina Motasem, we are passionate about redefining the boundaries of fashion. We firmly believe that high-end, good quality design can coexist with environmental consciousness and community support. Sustainability is at the core of our brand, driving us to find innovative ways to minimise waste, use natural fabrics, and contribute positively to the world.

Since last year, we have been transforming our leftover fabrics into gorgeous tops that we've been donating to SmartWorks, a women's charity that works hard to help empower marginalised to get a job and in turn support their communities.

Repurposing with Purpose: From Fabric Remnants to Precious Baby Items

Crafted with Love, One Stitch at a Time

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond words. We've embarked on an inspiring journey to transform leftover silk fabric, sourced from our couture collection's luxury silk crepe and the natural silk from our green collection, into valuable items for babies.

From baby rompers to adorable booties, snug mittens to charming dresses, each piece is lovingly crafted, one stitch at a time. We embrace the beauty of repurposing, breathing new life into fabric remnants and ensuring that even the smallest pieces are given purpose and value.

Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) is a small local charity. Founded in 2006, AFRIL support refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants in South East London to lift themselves out of poverty and rebuild their lives in the heart of our community. They provide both crisis support to meet immediate needs, and long-term, flexible programmes to tackle the underlying problems that lead families to be in crisis, empowering them to move from dependence to independence and thrive. Projects include Rainbow Club supplementary school, Advice and Advocacy, Foodbank, Allotment of Refuge and arts based wellbeing projects. AFRIL runs an immigration project in partnership with Southwark Law Centre. They are funded by individual donations from the public and support from trusts and foundations. For more information see:

Supporting AFRIL's Big Give Campaign: Championing Change Together

Joining Forces for a Brighter Future

Our collaboration with AFRIL goes beyond creating beautiful baby items. We're proud to support AFRIL's Big Give Campaign, an initiative aimed at raising £7,500 by June 20th. The funds raised will enable AFRIL to provide vital support to refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable migrants in South East London, helping them lift themselves out of poverty and rebuild their lives. Together, we can be champions for change and make a real difference in our community.

This year the campaign will support our food bank programme which supports young minds in three ways…

  1. Our food bank combines food vouchers, vegetables and fruit to support healthy eating.

  2. Our art group inspires young imaginations and builds confidence.

  3. Our allotment is a welcoming learning space for children seeking sanctuary in the UK.
