Earth Day: Eco-Friendly Wedding Ideas

In honour of Earth Day, we'd like to share some of our favourite ways in which brides choose to make their weddings a bit more eco-friendly. We hope to inspire you to help protect our earth with these chic, environmentally safe alternatives!

Floral Push-Pop Confetti

As an alternative to the typical paper confetti used for the bride and groom send off, try using a more eco-friendly alternative, such as this floral push-pop confetti. This mixture of dried rose, lilac, lavender, and hydrangeas disintegrate into water and leave the air with a fresh lavender scent. In addition, the packaging is made to be used as a freezer safe food container and the label as seed paper to grow new flowers. (Floral Eco-Friendly Push-Pop Confetti // Thimblepress)

Seed Paper Wedding Invitations

Check out this unique alternative to the traditional wedding invitation! Instead of using a normal cardstock invitation that will create waste, try printing your invite in a more eco-friendly way. These wedding invitations are made out of a special plantable seed paper. All that guests have to do is place seeds inside, wet the paper, and place the invitation in the sunlight. Before they know it, they’ll have their own herb plant!

Succulent Wedding Favors

Instead of the typical gift back or mini bottle of champagne, try going a bit more eco-friendly with your wedding favors by giving your guests a mini succulent to take home! They require very little attention, and they can either be left in this small container or transferred to another container. Your guests will fall in love with them!

Multi-Purpose Mason Jars

The abundance of drinks served at weddings can add up to a very large amount of waste. Go eco-friendly and try using reusable glass mason jars! These can be used for drinks for each guest throughout the night. The jars can also be used to help guests find their tables to eliminate even more waste. Mason jars offer so many benefits as they can also serve as a trendy wedding favor to take home after the big day!

The Tree Planting Unity Ceremony

Take an eco-friendly turn on the traditional unity ceremony! Instead of lighting a candle side by side, choose to plant a tree with your spouse on the big day. Not only does it benefit the environment, but this ceremony will be incomparable to many others!

Disposable Bamboo Plates and Napkins

Looking for disposable plates and napkins for your reception? Forget about the wasteful paper products, and check out the new eco-friendly bamboo-ware. These bamboo plates create a very natural, earthy look for the table setting. The napkins give off the appearance of an expensive cloth napkin yet they are spun from bamboo! This product gives brides the opportunity to have an easy clean up after the wedding while staying environmentally conscious.
